This document proposes the allocation of resources to fund the construction of a mobile podcasting studio for use for courses, labs, and practica in the Department of Media and Communication. Based on a podcasting project developed at the University of Iowa, this mobile studio allows for the easy recording of spoken audio on up to five microphones with minimal pre- or post-production from any location on campus. Inputs are mixed on site, recorded on a small digital recorder, and shared to the attached IPad, which can play intro/outro music, take Skype calls, capture photo/video, and then publish to online media sharing services. Using this equipment, students will begin working on their own talk shows, interview visiting artists or lecturers, produce creative audio works, and broadcast live from any location on campus. The grant was funded in Spring 2015, the equipment assembled in Summer 2015, and ready to integrate into classes beginning Fall 2015.
