Purpose
In any creative endeavor, it is vital to develop an understanding of the conventions, style, and structure of existing projects and work that currently exist in the field. Since one of the long-term goals of this course is to facilitate you creating multimedia publications, it’s important to first have a sense of what kinds of publications are out there today. In this assignment, you will spend a week or so reviewing a single publication to get a feeling for its content, tone, audience, style, organization, and signature characteristics.
Format
Your presentation should be no shorter than five minutes and no longer than eight. In the presentation, you should
- show your classmates the publication you’ve assessed,
- explain its general focus (news, politics, culture, sports, music, fashion, etc),
- summarize its organization and structure,
- discuss some of its most distinctive characteristics,
- and most importantly, you should identify "one thing to steal," a specific element of the publication that you think is noteworthy, memorable, or creative from which the class as a whole might take some inspiration.
Due Date
Identify your publication January 21 and give your presentation in-class on January 30.
